There are wide varieties of options available for the under bite correction. In most of the cases orthodontic corrections are required to correct the under bite which can otherwise lead to TMJ disorders.
Timely intervention and teeth correction can give a person a better bite, a beautiful smile, straighter and healthier teeth. These corrections may include braces, aligners, space maintainers or removable computer generated appliances.
Braces (orthodontic appliances) are mainly used to shift the teeth and hold them in a proper place. Braces can be fixed or removable types. However your dentist will recommend the fixed type, which can be removed by the dentist for better results.
Unlike braces, aligner are invisible and removable. They tend to be less irritating and do not trap any food in between. They are usually recommended for adults with a mild spacing problems and are not suitable for children and adolescents.
Space retainers and removable computer-generated appliances are less viable options used for the proper placement of the teeth.
The length of the orthodontic correction may vary according to the treatment plan as agreed with your doctor. However some adults may need to wear a retainer at night for the rest of their lives. Most of the dentists are trained to tackle minor orthodontic problems. However an orthodontist with 2-3 years experience is recommended for all the major treatments.
